Caring Unlimited receives $20,000 grant from Mary Kay Ash Foundation

CARING UNLIMITED RECEIVES $20,000 GRANT FROM MARY KAY ASH FOUNDATION

Mary Kay Ash Foundation Awards $1 Million in Grants to 50 Domestic Violence Shelters Across the US providing critical programs and services

SANFORD, MAINE- Caring Unlimited, York County, Maine’s Domestic Violence Resource Center, has been awarded one of just 50 grants nationwide from the Mary Kay Ash Foundation. The Foundation’s $1 million in grant contributions in 2024, which includes the award to Caring Unlimited, brings its investment in its shelter grant program to over $57 million total.

The Mary Kay Ash Foundation was established in 1996. In 2000, the Foundation expanded to include ending domestic violence as part of its mission. The annual shelter grant program has helped finance critical needs including emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling and legal aid. All these resources support survivors and their children as they seek to increase their safety and rebuild their lives free from abuse. This year, more than 300 organizations applied for the Mary Kay Ash Foundation shelter grants.

Caring Unlimited is York County’s domestic violence resource center. Since 1977, Caring Unlimited has worked with the community to end domestic violence in York County. Caring Unlimited serves an average of 2000 individuals annually through a comprehensive array of programs including 24-hour Helpline and online chat/ text helpline services, emergency shelter, transitional housing, individual and group advocacy and support, and free legal assistance and court advocacy. All services are free of charge and accessible 24 hours a day. Caring Unlimited also provides community education, training, and consultation to youth and adults.

The award from the Mary Kay Ash Foundation will help Caring Unlimited respond rapidly to survivors’ urgent and immediate safety needs throughout the coming year. The agency’s comprehensive services ensure support to address urgent, immediate safety needs as well as longer terms needs to support long term safety and economic independence.
