Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQ+) Domestic Violence
Abuse happens in all communities. Gender presentation, expression, or sexual orientation do not determine whether someone can be abused, or abusive.
Caring Unlimited’s services are available free of charge to anyone victimized by an intimate partner, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
LGBTQ+ people experience intimate partner violence at high rates, and often face added barriers to seeking help. There may be some additional behaviors used by intimate partners to keep control including (but not limited to):
Threatening to out you in places where you are not out.
Intentionally misgendering you or disrespecting your gender identity.
Stealing your identity (opening or cancelling accounts in your name, using accounts without your permission, etc.)
Using homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, etc. against you.
Isolating you from LGBTQ+ spaces and/or limit interactions with your community.
Witholding access to gender affirming care.
Dictating how you can dress or other aspects of your gender presentation.
