A Closing Reflection on The Survivor Stories Project

From Caring Unlimited Community Educator, Anna Youngmann-Morrow
As we close our 8th Annual Survivor Stories Project, we'd like to say thank you. Thank you for joining us each week, sharing these inspiring stories with your networks, and generously working with us to raise awareness about domestic abuse and violence.

Thank you, too, to the individuals who shared their stories of survival and resilience with us to make this year’s Survivor Stories Project possible.  At Caring Unlimited, it’s the voices and testimony of those who have experienced abuse that fuels our work. The heart of all of our awareness raising and education efforts throughout the year is just this: To amplify diverse survivor voices and experiences.

The movement to end domestic violence was built by and is sustained by the work of individuals impacted by abuse. It’s these shared stories and reclaimed lives that help us confront the everyday atrocities of abuse being committed in our community. These stories invite us in, to listen, to bear witness, and to take action. These anonymous testimonies demonstrate not only the impact of abuse and dominance, but also the incredible resilience and healing of which humans are capable. They inspire hope.

As one anonymous survivor shared, “It can be done.” We can work together to confront attitudes of dominance and dehumanization that allow individuals to justify their abusive actions. We can band together to support safety and true options for individuals impacted.

We invite you to continue to stay connected and involved by scheduling a training for your workplace, faith community, school or organization; registering for one of our free community webinars; participating in an upcoming event; or volunteering with us. There are many ways that we can work together to end abuse. It can be done.
